If you've watched one of my streams, you may have noticed that I don't appear on camera. Instead, you'll see a small animated version of me: my Sim-self.

That's my PNGTuber.

What is a PNGTuber?

A PNGTuber uses a 2D avatar made from images instead of a traditional webcam. The avatar can change expressions, react when the streamer speaks or switch appearances using hotkeys.

It's similar to a VTuber, but generally simpler. While VTubers often use animated 2D or 3D models with face or motion tracking, a PNGTuber works with a smaller collection of images that change depending on what's happening.

In my case, my avatar is based on my Sim-self - the version of me I created in The Sims.

Why use one?

Streaming doesn't have to mean putting yourself on camera. For me, using a PNGTuber is a way to be visually present without adding the pressure of a webcam or feeling like I need to look or behave a certain way.

It fits the kind of space I want my stream to be: comfortable, creative and low-pressure. I can show up as myself without having to perform a version of myself for the camera.

And because my avatar is my Sim-self, she still feels recognizably like me - just with a little extra gaming magic. But the same Resting Bitch Face™.
